Every NFL team’s biggest weakness heading into 2020
Arizona Cardinals – Lack of quality at tight end
Kyler Murray could really benefit from having a tight end capable of providing him a safety blanket. As it stands, the Cardinals don’t have anyone capable of giving him that kind of support.
Maxx Williams is not the answer. He will struggle to produce as an average starter. That means Murray will be forced to make plays on his own again in 2020. He’s capable, but it’s a risk for the Cardinals everytime he scrambles outside the pocket.
Los Angeles Rams – Lack of a star wide receiver
The Rams have some interesting options at wide receiver, but no one in the group would be considered a real match-up nightmare for opposing cornerbacks. That puts a lot of pressure on Sean McVay to produce yards with his superior offensive scheme.
More importantly, it puts real pressure on Jared Goff to throw guys open. It’s fair to wonder how he’d look with a legitimate No. 1 wideout to grow with. That’s just not an option the Rams will afford him in 2020. Time will tell if it comes back to haunt them.
San Francisco 49ers – Richard Sherman
At some point, Sherman’s performance is going to drop off sharply due to age. The 49ers are making a significant bet that 2020 won’t be the season when that occurs.
They are still counting on Sherman to be their No. 1 cornerback. His production is boosted by the team’s ferocious pass rush, but there are still times when he’s forced to run with wide receivers on deep patterns. Those plays don’t turn out well for the 49ers defense.
Seattle Seahawks – L.J. Collier
The Seahawks spent a first-round pick on Collier in 2019 hoping he could replace Frank Clark at defensive end. He barely got on the field as a rookie due to his inconistent play.
He’s getting another golden opportunity to grab a starting spot in 2020. If he fails, the Seahawks defense will struggle to rush the passer. Collier might also struggle to hold on to his roster spot in 2021.
