2. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have been kicking the tires on veteran running backs lately, with reported interest in Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy and Carlos Hyde before the latter signed with the Seahawks. How wise it is to take away touches from Miles Sanders after his strong stretch run as a rookie last year is up for debate. But the Eagles have generally used multiple backs, and it’s fair to assume they have questions about Boston Scott and Corey Clement as the primary backups to Sanders.

The Eagles have of course gotten a close look at Peterson in the three games he has played against them over the last two seasons (he was healthy scratch in Week 1 last year). What that told them one way of another about him can’t be known, but it’s easy to envision them seeing him as an effective runner behind a stronger offensive line than Washington’s.

If Peterson still carries illusions of being anything close to an old-school workhorse, he won’t find that kind of opportunity in Philadelphia (or anywhere, frankly). But in the name of winning, and being a piece of the equation rather than the focal point, maybe he’d consider the Eagles if he winds up being a late cut.
