Ed Orgeron on FOX News: ‘We need football’ (and Geaux Tigahs)
By John Buhler
Ed Orgeron wants college football to be back in Baton Rouge this fall.
College football is coming off one of its best seasons. The LSU Tigers went undefeated en route to their fourth national championship in school history. Ed Orgeron’s Bayou Bengals navigated one of the toughest schedules in the modern era to perfection. Led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, the 2019 Tigers are among the greatest single-season teams to play.
The National Championship-winning head coach appeared on FOX News Wednesday morning to tell us how important the return of college football will be to the Baton Rouge economy.
“And as you know, Baton Rouge on a Saturday is hopping,” said Orgeron. “There’s tailgating, the restaurants are full, the hotels are full, the economy is booming. It would be a big blow not only to our universities but the economy. I do believe that we need football.”
Ed Orgeron says what we’re all thinking: “We need football.”
Louisiana was one of the states hit the hardest by the coronavirus. New Orleans was in rough shape back in March due to the annual celebration of Mardi Gras. But with states opening back up in the last few weeks and the coming weeks, it’s looking more and more likely that we’ll have college football this fall, especially in SEC country where this sport is king.
Orgeron has been a spokesperson for being safe and respectful to each other during these trying times. Not only is he a great leader of men, but he is one of the greatest symbols of Louisiana today. When Coach O talks, we listen. When he says “we need football” back, we’re right there with him. Ending every conversation with his patented, “Go Tigahs!” how can you not love that?
Coach O needs football almost as much as we need him leading LSU into Death Valley on Saturday night. Hold that Tiger!
