In the simplest of terms, Tommie Frazier is Nebraska football royalty. No, he might not be the Cornhusker’s all-time leading passer, all-time leading rusher or anything of that sort. But when you look at what he accomplished throughout his college career and the place in history he holds in Lincoln and in the sport as a whole, Frazier is one of the all-time greats.

Perhaps the biggest reason why Frazier is so highly regarded is for the success he led the Huskers to during his time with the program. He led the team to three consecutive National Championship Games, winning two of them. Even more impressive — especially considering that Nebraska only won two of those titles, 1994 and 1995 — is that the quarterback was named the MVP of all three title games, the only player to ever accomplish that. He was also the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 1995.

To be sure, Frazier still produced at a high level as well. He is sixth all-time at Nebraska in total offensive yards (5,476), ninth all-time in passing yards (3,521) and seventh in total touchdowns (36). Couple that with his team success and it’s not hard to see why he’s a Huskers legend that lives on 25 years later.

Unfortunately, blood clots that sadly resulted from Crohn’s disease led to Frazier not being selected in the NFL Draft. Even more unfortunate, the quarterback only got to play one game in the CFL before his condition forced him to retire. Still, there’s no denying that he’s one of the greatest to ever lace them up in college football history.
