Why do Arsenal’s leaked new kits look like a crime scene?

The away kits for Arsenal’s 2020-21 season have been leaked. Warning: viewer discretion is advised.

Do you ever look at a soccer kit and just say, “How many people had to approve this for it to reach this point?”

That’s how it feels looking at leaked images of Arsenal’s new away kits for the 2020-21 season.

The kits that were leaked by Footy Headlines on Thursday morning show a white jersey with red streaks across the body and a black-and-white version of the Arsenal crest. Officially, the kit features “maroon marble” across a “cloud white” background.

Honestly, they look more like a Halloween costume than something you want to wear to a soccer match. They also sort of look like strawberry swirl ice cream, which is better than looking like you just walked away from a crime scene but still probably isn’t the kind of vibe you’re looking for when you take the pitch.

If one believes that the kit looks like the wearer has recently committed a murder, you could argue that this is the vibe Arsenal is going for. We have killed before and we shall kill again. On the other hand, some fans suggested the wearer would look like they had just gotten into a fight and lost. One fan went farther, saying on Twitter, “Arsenal have gone with a blood spatter pattern for their away kit to honour how they get battered out of the Top 4 every season #Respect.”

The scary kit is an Adidas production after the Gunners returned to wearing Adidas this season for the first time since the early 1990s.

What do you think of this new away kit? Will it strike fear into the hearts of Arsenal’s enemies or is it merely good for a laugh?
