Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs. Juan Francisco Estrada II

The main reason we need to see this rematch is because their first fight was incredible — despite not getting the media attention it deserved. At that time, the lower weight classes were largely neglected U.S. TV networks, so many fans either did not know about these fighters or were unable to watch them fight.

It was a fight of the year candidate and came at a time that Chocolatito looked unbeatable. He was dominating the 112 pounds division, stopping nearly everyone he faced. A young Estrada was able to not only weather the storm, but be competitive in the fight as well.

Fast forward eight years, and they’re both still at the top of their division. Now is as good a time as any for the rematch.

After suffering back-to-back losses to Sor Rungvisai, Roman Gonzalez is officially back, defeating undefeated WBA junior bantamweight champion Khalid Yafai in February. It was fantastic to see Chocolatito back on his A-game, as many felt his time as a champion was all but over after getting brutally knocked out in 2017.

Estrada, on the other hand, is currently the WBC junior bantamweight champion. He earned the belt after defeating Sor Rungvisai in their 2019 rematch. It was sweet revenge for Estrada, who lost a majority decision in their first go around.

The time is now for Chocolatito and Estrada to fight again. A unification bout that is also a rematch of a fight of the year candidate? And this time it will be broadcasted for fans to watch? Sign us up.
