What four players symbolize the proud history of the New Orleans Saints?

It is a franchise born out of expansion in 1967 and one that did not enjoy a season above the .500 mark until its 21st year in the National Football League. The New Orleans Saints are now one of the premier organizations in the league. But for a long time the club was a laughing stock and was a franchise that could not get out of its own way.

And even when the team finally reached the playoffs in 1987 and three more times afterwards (1990-92), it took them a fifth try to finally win a postseason game (2000).

Of course, things are a lot different for this organization these days. Under head coach Sean Payton and with quarterback Drew Brees at his side, the Saints have made eight postseason appearances since the duo’s arrival in 2006, won a Super Bowl in ’09 and are currently winners of the NFC South each of the past three seasons.

The franchise has had its share of star players, many such as Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and Cameron Jordan who are with the club at the moment. As for the past, there’s Pro Football Hall of Fame tackle Willie Roaf, reliable guard Jahri Evans and standout wide receivers such as one-time All-Pro Danny Abramowicz and heralded former seventh-round pick Marques Colston.

So here’s a look at the Saints’ version of Mount Rushmore, with the choices in alphabetical order. And some may get a kick out of the first choice.
