Seattle Seahawks all-time Mount Rushmore
By Matt Graves
1. Steve Largent, WR (1976-1989)
The beloved Steve Largent is a name that will forever be a household name for Seahawks fans. Largent is a seven-time Pro Bowler who held numerous records including the all-time leader in receptions (819), most receiving yards (13,089), and most touchdown receptions (100).
Despite being an All-American at Tulsa, Largent was not selected until the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft. The Houston Oilers selected the wide receiver, then traded him to the Seahawks after four preseason games. The Oilers figured his 5-foot-11 frame wouldn’t hold out in the NFL. They were wrong.
The trade would pay off for the Seahawks in many ways. Largent became a star in Seattle, recording 54 receptions in his rookie season, third-best in the NFC. His exceptional determination and speed helped the franchise reach its first and only AFC Championship Game in 1983.
Largent would have a few firsts with the franchise, becoming the first Seahawk to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of the Fame. Four years later, he became the first player in franchise history to have his number retired. For all of his efforts as a during his illustrious career, Largent was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time team.
