These four players symbolize the rich history of the Washington Redskins.
It’s an NFL franchise with a very proud history but these days, the Washington Redskins are known more for their shortcomings than their successes. A club that has won the title total of five NFL championships, including three in the Super Bowl Era, hasn’t played on Super Sunday or even reached the conference title round since 1991.
This year, the team will be under the guidance of former Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera. He becomes the 10th different sidelined leader under current owner Daniel Snyder dating back to 1999.
But dating back is exactly what this piece is about as we look at the great players who suited up for this team. When a club is around as long as the Redskins, it’s not easy to narrow down the choices to four selections. So Hall of Famers such as guard Russ Grimm, safety Ken Houston (who split his time with the ‘Skins and Houston Oilers) and linebacker Chris Hanburger. There are other stars such as tackles Joe Jacoby, Chris Samuels and Trent Williams, as well as running back Larry Brown, the NFL MVP in 1972. And there are current stars such as outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and former standouts such as defensive lineman Charles Mann and Diron Talbert.
