10 eventual free agents who could change the shape of the NBA
The NBA’s title race is wide-open for now, but many of the league’s top stars are set to become free agents over the next few years.
With the NBA looking increasingly likely to resume the 2019-20 season, we should soon be treated to one of the most wide-open title chases in recent memory.
The league’s newfound parity may not last for long, though.
Over the next few seasons, a number of superstars will hit the free-agent market, including reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and four-time MVP LeBron James. If any of them leave their respective teams, they could single-handedly reshape the balance of the NBA.
Could one of these stars form a new Big Three with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets? Could James and Anthony Davis lure a third star to the Los Angeles Lakers? Will Antetokounmpo leave the Milwaukee Bucks in disarray if they can’t win a title either this season or next? How long will Leonard and Paul George remain with the Los Angeles Clippers?
All of these questions and more will play a large part in determining the NBA’s trajectory over the next half-decade.
