Underrated NFL MVP candidates in 2020

3. Jimmy Garoppolo

Bosa isn’t the only 49ers star who can ride a dominant regular season to an MVP award in 2020. The team’s quarterback also has a chance to take a step forward and take home some serious hardware.

Garoppolo’s ineffective performance in the Super Bowl has contibuted to the narrative that he was somehow the team’s weak link in 2019. The fimly doesn’t back that assertion up, but that won’t change the national perception of Garoppolo.

To win the MVP Award he will need to take a giant step forward. The addition of Brandon Aiyuk in the draft coupled with the development of Deebo Samuel should give him better weapons on the outside. The presence of George Kittle on tight end gives him one of the most unique receivers in the game to utilize all over the field.

Garoppolo won’t need to take over many games to win the award, but a few clutch throws late in games could do a lot to strengthen his MVP resume. His odds currently sit at +3000 which are just too high for the quarterback of a potentially dominant regular season team.
