Premier League team to watch No. 4: Aston Villa

After a spell down in the championship, Aston Villa returned to the Premier League this season, but it has not been comfortable.

They currently sit second from bottom, only ahead of Norwich City — who also returned to the Premier League this season following a three-year absence. So why are they a team to watch?

The drama of a relegation battle. Villa are part of what appears to be a five-team relegation stand-off. They currently have a poor 25 points, however the three teams above them are all tied up on 27 points. Just one win can see Villa catch West Ham, Watford and Bournemouth — all teams who played in the Premier League last season. Ahead of those and still within catching distance sits Brighton on 29 points.

Everything in the bottom five is tight, but the way in which Villa can impact the league makes them the most interesting team of the bunch. There is also a level of entertainment to be had in watching a team trying to return to the Premier League and stay there — it’s as if their promotion was for little when a team is immediately relegated again.
