4. The progression of Dawson Knox

Allen has already proven that he has the arm strength to make big plays down the field at an impressive clip. Now it’s time for him to show the rest of the NFL that he’s capable of making precision throws on short and intermediate routes.

The Bills are going to give their tight ends a lot of chances to make plays on those sorts of routes. Knox is the best of the bunch. He only managed to catch 28 passes as a rookie, but he’s a prime candidate to enjoy a breakout sophomore campaign.

Knox isn’t a great in-line blocker, but he has the speed and quickness to flex out into the slot and creat mismatches in favor of the Buffalo offense. He may not have the elite speed to make huge plays down the seam, but there’s no reason to think he can’t dominate matchups against linebackers or safeties in the middle third of the field.

In particular, Knox needs to gain a better understanding of what Allen wants to do when he escapes the pocket. The Bills would like to see him run a little less in 2020. Throwing some easy passes to Knox could prevent Allen from taking unnecessary hits during the regular season. Look for Knox to become an important part of this offense in his second season as a pro.
