LeBron James shoots down Drew Brees’ criticism of Colin Kaepernick

Drew Brees still thinks Colin Kaepernick’s protest was about the flag. LeBron James called him out on Twitter for his ignorance.

In an interview with Yahoo on Wednesday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was asked what he thinks of NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem again when the NFL season starts back up. His answer showed that he still doesn’t understand the point of the protests in the first place and a number of people, including LeBron James, let him know about it.

“I will never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag of the United States of America,” Brees said.

Brees, a white quarterback in one of the blackest cities in America, went on to explain that kneeling during the anthem is disrespectful to former and active military members. He continues to say this despite those in the military community saying this was not the case. It has been four years since Colin Kaepernick first took a knee to protest police brutality and Brees still doesn’t get it.

Brees received some well-deserved criticism for his comments on social media. One of those critics was Lebron James.

“WOW,” James wrote. “You literally still don’t understand why Kap was kneeling on one knee??”

James went on to talk about his father-in-law, who fought in the armed forces. “He never found Kap peaceful protest offensive,” Lebron added. “Because he and I both know what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong!”

LeBron hasn’t been quiet during the anti-racism protests that have swept the nation. He’s shared many posts on Twitter from people like filmmaker Ava DuVernay and former President Barack Obama. On Friday night, he endorsed a speech given by Killer Mike at the Atlanta protests.

James isn’t the only one who called out Brees for his comments. Jason and Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots, Jamal Adams of the New York Jets, and Brees’ teammate Michael Thomas have also been vocal about why Brees is wrong.

Hopefully, their message sinks in.
