5 NFL teams that made playoffs last year but won’t make it back in 2020
By John Buhler
Even though the Houston Texans won the AFC South four of the last five years, they’re not favored to win it this season. While some are clamoring for the Tennessee Titans to win their first division crown since 2008, others feels it’s the Indianapolis Colts’ turn for divisional supremacy, as they haven’t won the division since 2014.
Outside of Houston, who believes in the Texans?
Odds are, the Texans will have to face the harsh reality of a third-place divisional finish with only the toothless Jacksonville Jaguars looking up at them. Houston may have a star quarterback in Deshaun Watson and well-compensated left tackle who we think is good in Laremy Tunsil. However, they have a Bill O’Brien problem on their hands that cannot be overcome this fall.
The Texans’ head coach/de facto general manager traded away arguably his best player in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for David Johnson’s bad contract. He then traded for wide receiver Brandin Cooks who might be one concussion away from being out of the league. Let’s hope it’s not the case. Either way, O’Brien’s front office decisions will cost his team.
With two other strong teams in the division in the Titans and the Colts, there’s a good chance the Texans are watching playoff football games at home. Though the Titans will likely regress from what they were a season ago, the Texans definitely will. So the only team in the AFC South who will be better than last will be the Colts, who are the division champion by default, right?
