Fantasy Football breakout players in 2020: AFC East
There’s not much to love (fantasy-wise) about the Miami Dolphins.
Tua doesn’t appear to be the starting QB, at least not to start the season. There’s not much to love about their backfield with Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, both players who have been productive in their careers, but are unreliable when in a committee. Mike Gesicki is talented, but he seems like another one of those tight ends that will get you 0 or 10 points, no in between. So, let’s choose a bright spot for the Dolphins:
DeVante Parker (currently ranked as: WR20): I know we might be a year late on DeVante’s breakout, but he is still being undervalued in Fantasy Football. He had a career year in 2019: 72 receptions, 1202 yards and 9 TDs.
The reason I list him here is because (1) he’s still not being drafted high enough for the production he will put up and (2) I have no other options to choose from on the Dolphins so this is out of desperation. DeVante Parker was a stud last year. He finished as WR6, above players like DeAndre Hopkins and Amari Cooper.
So, the question must be asked: if he finished top 6 last year, why is he being drafted at WR20? Your answer is as good as mine. After several disappointing years to start his career, DeVante proved to be everything the Dolphins were expecting when they drafted him in 2015. His fantasy numbers were especially solid and consistent given his target share. DeVante Parker had a 21.1% target share in 2019.
I don’t expect this to decrease given that the Dolphins did not bring in any notable pass catchers. They will also be playing from behind a good amount of the games which bodes well for DeVante. He will get to have Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing to him until he is inevitably benched for Tua Tagovailoa.
Both of those options are much better than the Josh Rosen that DeVante was stuck with for a couple games last year. Expect another borderline Top 10 fantasy season from DeVante in 2020. If that is the case, you will have successfully drafted a WR1 at WR2 price, can’t beat that.
