The Beast of the East (or at least that’s what they used to be). This one is tough. There are so many question marks about how this Patriots team will perform this year. Finding Fantasy success on this team will not be easy.

They could struggle on offense depending on who the quarterback is, which leads to my breakout player to draft from this team.

Sony Michel (currently ranked as: RB28): I know, if you had him last year, you were wronged. You drafted him so high just to be let down. He was not good, football or fantasy football-wise. But that’s exactly why I want him. He can’t possibly be worse than last year, right?!?!?!

He will be motivated. Knowing Bill Belichick, I don’t see him putting too much faith in Stidham (or whoever the Patriots starting QB is) and I expect a lot of opportunities for Michel. Even if the Patriots are a bad team which is unexpected, their defense will keep them in every game. Sony should see 15-20 touches a game, and that’s more than you can ask for a player current being drafted as an RB3.

Right now, he is being drafted as RB28. Let’s assume he gives us a repeat performance of 2019 in 2020. That would be perfectly fine since he finished as RB31 in 2019! I know I was surprised to see him that high too. That would be an equal return to where you drafted him. Can’t complain about that.

Part of the reason he was so frustrating to own last year was that you were counting on him as a weekly starter. Drafting him as an RB3 means you can play him when he has good match-ups until he earns your trust. You aren’t counting on him every Sunday to do well. That’s exactly why Sony might be a player to snag at his current ADP. Sony is a high-floor, and high-upside play at this spot in your draft. Consider drafting him instead of a Cam Akers (RB29) or Derrius Guice (RB 30) who are both being ranked right next to him.
