Fantasy Golf: Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings preview and player picks

Fantasy golf fans can finally rejoice! Professional golf is finally back! The PGA Tour travels to Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Let’s take a look at this week’s event from a fantasy perspective!

Before I discuss my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the Charles Schwab Challenge let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play and the key statistics that I will be focusing on for this week’s event.

The Charles Schwab Challenge will be played at Colonial Country Club in Forth Worth, Texas. The golf course is a par 70 that measures 7,209 yards. The course features tight tree lined fairways and greens that are very small with an average size of about 4,500 square feet. It should also be noted that the this track features bermuda grass fairways and bent grass greens.

*This will be the 48th consecutive year that the Charles Schwab Challenge has been played at Colonial Country Club. It is the longest running non-major event held at the same site.

The key statistics that I am focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained tee to green, scrambling, and strokes gained putting.

Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the Charles Schwab Challenge!

Rory McIlroy $11,800

The current number one golfer in the world has played some simply outstanding and consistent golf over the last year. Let me be more specific. McIlroy has played 13 golf tournaments since the start of June 2019. In those 13 events played, McIlroy has an unbelievable 11 top nine finishes, including a win at the Tour Championship in August. More recently, McIlroy finished fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

McIlroy also checks the box for me when it comes to key statistics. He currently ranks sixth in strokes gained off the tee (.718), third in strokes gained approach (1.216), first in scrambling (70.40%), and 18th in GIR on the PGA Tour.

Brandt Snedeker $7,800

The 39 year old American has four top 22 finishes in his last eight events on the PGA Tour. Snedeker currently ranks third in strokes gained around the green (.706) and 20th in strokes gained putting (.564) on the PGA Tour. He also finished 19th at the 2019 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Harris English $7,500

English arrives at this week’s event on the heels of three consecutive top 17 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a ninth place result at the Arnold Palmer Invitational three months ago.

Scott Piercy $6,800

He finished 17th at the Genesis Invitational in February. Additionally, Piercy finished seventh at the 2017 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Jimmy Walker $6,700

The 41 year old Texan has played well in the past at Colonial Country Club. More specifically, Walker has three consecutive top 29 finishes at the Charles Schwab Challenge, including a 19th place result at last year’s event. He also checks the box for me when it comes to recent form. Walker has two consecutive top 24 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 21st place result at the Honda Classic in February.

Additional golfers I like to perform well this week are: Jon Rahm $11,000: Tom Hoge $7,200: Adam Long $6,800.
