Zion Williamson wins appeal in lawsuit with former marketing agent
Zion Williamson is finally seeing a win after his appeal in a lawsuit with his former marketing agent was approved. Unfortunately, this isn’t the end of the road for Williamson’s legal issues.
The Pelicans rookie was sued by Gina Ford for more than $100 million after he halted working with her agency, Prime Sports. Williamson claimed the contract was invalid under North Carolina law.
Ford alleged that Williamson or his family accepted money or gifts to play at Duke which would call his college eligibility into question.
Ford’s lawyers threatened to depose Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and Williamson sought to get the request denied citing it as a way to discredit him and force a settlement on the lawsuit. On Thursday they approved the stay (postponement of action).
What does the appeal win mean for Zion Williamson?
This is just a step in the right direction for Williamson in his defense and could make her lawsuit hard to prove and/or go forward. He will not be forced to testify at this time.
Ford has 10 days to respond to the stay.
Willamson was last year’s No. 1 overall NBA draft pick.
