2. The New York Mets are facing a lot of turnover after this MLB season

There was a lot of optimism in Port St. Lucie this year as it looked like the New York Mets had a legitimate shot to win the National League East. A strong finish in 2019 combined with solid offseason moves gave the Mets a deep roster capable of competing with anyone in baseball.

The problem the Mets will run into is that they literally put all of their eggs into the 2020 basket, leaving them in deep trouble if the MLB season isn’t played. New York pulled a similar move to Cincinnati’s acquisition of Trevor Bauer last July, acquiring Marcus Stroman to give themselves a replacement for Zack Wheeler in 2020.

Stroman, along with fellow starters Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello, will all be free agents after this season. The Mets also will be without Noah Syndergaard for part of 2021 due to his Tommy John surgery, leaving the team with only Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz under contract beyond this season in the rotation.

The free agency questions will also surround the team at catcher, where Wilson Ramos has a team option, and in the bullpen, where Dellin Betances can opt-out while Justin Wilson would also hit free agency. The Mets would also waste valuable service time on players like Michael Conforto, Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil, leaving them in need of a lot of help for 2021 and beyond.

That isn’t a good position to be in considering the Mets are currently for sale and the Wilpons have questionable finances to begin with. If there is no MLB baseball this season the Mets will be a massive loser.
