1. The Los Angeles Dodgers could miss out on a title . . . and Mookie Betts

The biggest move of the baseball offseason came when the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox in a huge trade. A former MVP, Betts was dealt from the Red Sox over luxury tax concerns prior to his walk-year.

The move cost the Dodgers three intriguing young players, but it made a ton of sense given the state of the franchise. It has been 31 long years since Los Angeles won a World Series crown so taking a swing at one with one of the best players in baseball was a no-brainer.

The National League West also appeared to be a slam dunk for the Dodgers, who are light-years better than the San Diego Padres or the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team’s two closest competitors. Having Betts in the middle of the lineup with Cody Bellinger would give Los Angeles the most stacked batting order in baseball, giving them an excellent shot to break through and finally win a title.

That would all go away if there is no MLB season and Betts could conceivably walk right out the door. The Dodgers would certainly make a push to re-sign Betts, but he has made it clear he will test free agency in pursuit of a potentially record-breaking contract.

Blowing a great chance at the World Series and potentially losing the best player in baseball without even seeing him play in a regular-season game would be absolutely devastating. There is no doubt that the Dodgers would be MLB’s biggest losers if there is no season in 2020.
