The Chiefs are the NFL’s safest Super Bowl bet thanks to Patrick Mahomes.

There is still plenty of time before the NFL season starts, which means there’s also a lot of time to debate who can win the Super Bowl this year. The Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champs, are once again favorites to take home the Lombardi Trophy in Tampa Bay in February.

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone since the Chiefs are a very savvy bet thanks to the presence of one man: Patrick Mahomes. The reigning Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes is clearly the best player in football and one who has the potential to get even better entering his fourth season in the NFL.

That is a scary prospect for the rest of the league since Mahomes is already a remarkable player. Mahomes is capable of making highlight-reel plays that other quarterbacks can only dream of, a fact that further elevates a good Kansas City offense into a great one.

The current NFL environment is also a bit unsettled due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced teams to conduct their offseason programs virtually instead of in the facility. This situation will reward teams with a lot of continuity on their roster, a situation that plays right into the hands of Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Mahomes is getting intimately familiar with all the wrinkles and nuances of Andy Reid’s system, meaning he will be looking to fine-tune adjustments in training camp while teams that are breaking in new starters will have to go over the basics. That is a huge leg up for Mahomes, who has demonstrated that he can do things other NFL passers simply cannot.

Another reason that Mahomes makes the Chiefs the safest Super Bowl bet is the fact that he now has plenty of playoff experience. The Chiefs’ top challenger in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens, have yet to win a playoff game with Lamar Jackson under center while Tom Brady is now tossing passes in Tampa Bay, making the New England Patriots a significantly lesser threat.

Mahomes is already heads and shoulders better than other AFC quarterbacks talent-wise so adding in the postseason experience edge really stacks the deck for Kansas City. Don’t be shocked if the Chiefs become the first NFL team to repeat as champions since the Patriots in 2004 thanks to the presence of Mahomes, making them a very shrewd bet to make at the current odds.
