Jurrell Casey destroyed Titans for trading him away ‘like a piece of trash’

Jurrell Casey isn’t happy about how the Titans handled trading him to the Broncos.

Earlier this offseason, the Tennessee Titans made the decision to trade five-time Pro Bowler defensive lineman Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick. The move was pretty surprising considering that Casey was still playing at a high level and the Titans had just made it to the AFC Championship Game.

Casey was a big part of that defensive resurgence in Tennessee, notching 44 tackles and five sacks in 14 starts for the Titans. To this point, he had been with the Titans for his entire career, so of course, such a thing would undoubtedly be interpreted as a slap in the face.

Casey appeared on Double Coverage Podcast (hosted by Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty), and let loose, saying that Titans threw him away ‘like a piece of trash’ and this it isn’t the first time the team has rubbed a player the wrong way.

To be completely blunt, Tennessee wasn’t a very good team throughout much of Casey’s career. Regardless, Casey toughed it out and was a consistently good player for the Titans. Now that the team has finally turned the corner and decided he was no longer of use to them, Casey was understandably upset.

"“For us to get to that point to get better and to be a main focus of that and then you just throw me away to the trash like I wasn’t a main block of that, especially coming off an injury the year before and playing the whole season for ya’ll. No complaints, I did everything you wanted me to do and you throw me like a piece of trash. At the end of the day, none of these businesses are loyal. … At the end of the day, you can harp on it for a little but, but you’ve got to get over it.”"

Cornerback Logan Ryan also said on the podcast that he wasn’t a fan of how Tennessee handled things with him.

The Titans had an unexpected year in 2019 that led them to upset the Patriots in Foxborough in the AFC Wild Card round and hammering the Ravens in Baltimore in the AFC Divisional Round. The Titans had a double digit lead on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, but then – Well, Patrick Mahomes happened.

That success showed that Tennessee is on the right track, but their ways of handling business this offseason might end up blowing up in their face. Casey noted in the podcast that he wasn’t even told by the team about the trade. Instead, he found out from his agent that he’d be traded to Denver.

Not a good look.

The Titans have a big year ahead of them in 2020 and there will be a lot of eyeballs on them to see if they can recapture what they accomplished last season.
