Deshaun Watson thinks Notre Dame football has no shot vs. Clemson football.
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson just gave Notre Dame some bulletin board material.
The former Clemson football superstar offered his opinion on if Notre Dame football has any shot at winning on the gridiron this fall. Though it is a home game for the Fighting Irish up in South Bend, Watson is certain his Tigers got this.
When Watsonās fellow Clemson legend Tajh Boyd asked a rhetorical question on Twitter of if Notre Dame is a serious contender, the Texans star quarterback quoted tweeted with a resounding, āHELL NO!ā.
Later in the day on Wednesday, former Notre Dame standout quarterback DeShone Kizer quote tweeted Watsonās quote tweet with āYou already know what the bet is.ā
Watson then quote tweeted Kizerās quote tweet of his own quote tweet with, āHit my line Brodie, Iāll be glad to speak to you lol.ā
It looks like the former college stars with the same sounding first names that are spelled and capitalized totally differently are back at it again. With this being the biggest regular-season game for both Power 5 blue-bloods, did Watson just inadvertently give all the Golden Domers in the world bulletin board material? What have you done, Deshaun!
Deshaun Watson doesnāt think Notre Dame is a playoff contender.
Clemson has lost one game in the last two seasons, and that was a blowout defeat at the hands of Joe Burrow and the 2019 LSU Tigers in the national championship. Two years ago, Clemson throttled Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. That was Notre Dameās only loss of the 2018 campaign. In 2020, these should be two of the top-10 teams in the country all season.
This game in South Bend is massively important to both programs this year. If Notre Dame drops this game or any game for that matter, the Irish wonāt be making a return trip to the College Football Playoff. Not having the 13th possible data point hurts them in the selection committeeās eyes. Eventually, Notre Dame will join a Power 5 conference in football, but here we are.
If Clemson were to drop this game to Notre Dame, it might cost the ACC from getting a team into the playoff. Outside of Clemson, the ACC doesnāt have another serious playoff contender. There are no guarantees a one-loss Power 5 champion Clemson team gets in. If Notre Dame beats Clemson but drops another game along the way, the Irish will play in a New Yearās Six bowl.
Along with the Big Tenās Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson is the co-favorite to win the playoff this season. Notre Dame is in a group of about maybe 15 teams who have a halfway decent shot of getting in this season, although the Irish are more likely to be on the outside looking in that making a return appearance to a national semifinal game. But they have bulletin board material!
Watsonās comment seems like nothing but look for Notre Dame to make it something in due time.
