4. The Seattle Seahawks should have Colin Kaepernick back up Russell Wilson

This is a pairing that has had some legs in the past. The Seahawks actually brought Colin Kaepernick in for an interview in 2017 but opted not to sign him after the meeting.

It’s unclear why the Seahawks passed back then, but the team doesn’t appear likely to change their minds now. Head coach Pete Carroll recently indicated that the Seahawks are happy with their quarterback room, which would theoretically leave no room for Kaepernick.

That sounds nice until you look at Seattle’s depth chart and see that the only options behind Russell Wilson are journeyman Geno Smith and sixth-round rookie Anthony Gordon. Wilson has been an incredibly durable quarterback since coming to the NFL but an injury this season could torpedo Seattle’s hopes of making a deep playoff run.

Kaepernick is definitely on par with Smith’s talent level even after three years out of football. A full training camp could get Kaepernick ready to go and Seattle’s strong locker room culture would be a good fit to counter any potential criticism the signing would bring.
