4. The Bills have an underrated defense

It’s important to understand that Buffalo’s defense wasn’t just good in 2019. McDermott and his defensive staff put together an elite unit. Giving up 19.6 points per game powered the Bills to finishing second in the NFL in points allowed last year.

Maintaining that level of greatness again in 2020 will be a challenge, but the roster talent is there to make it happen. The front seven experienced some significant turnover, but there’s reason for optimism about the group the front office has put together. Mario Addison can really boost the team’s pass rush. The addition of Star Lotulelei should help the unit plug up the middle against the run.

The team also boasts potential superstars at linebacker and cornerback. Tremaine Edmunds is still learning the intricacies of playing middle linebacker in the NFL, but he’s got the athleticism to make big plays on a regular basis.

There’s a case to be made that Tre’Davious White is the best cover corner in the game. At worst, he profiles as a player that McDermott can comfortably line up in single coverage against any wide receiver in the league. The ability to go man-to-man on one side of the field opens up a ton of options for the Buffalo secondary. Add it all up and the Bills have a chance to ride their defense to a lot of wins in 2020.
