Tottenham only have nine regular season matches remaining, but Spurs need to answer some crucial questions to set the squad up for future success.

Fans may have mixed feelings about the upcoming return of the Premier League, but Tottenham are one club that still have plenty to play for this season. In addition to trying to secure Champions League soccer for next season, Spurs have some crucial questions to answer about their current squad construction.

It’s still fair to wonder whether or not Tottenham are on an upward trajectory. Mauricio Pochettino’s magical run to the Champions League final seems like a distant memory. Jose Mourinho arrived in North London with significant fanfare, but it’s still unclear just what his vision for the club is.

That makes the last nine matches of the current campaign very important for Spurs as they prepare for the 2020-21 season. The following five questions must be answered by Tottenham before the offseason begins.

Tottenham question No. 5: Is Jose Mourinho the right manager?

It’s very unlikely that Tottenham will make any sort of managerial change in the near future. The club owes Mourinho too much money to make that a reality. However, the higher-ups at the club still have a decision to make about just how much they’ll back Mourinho’s vision over the coming months.

How the side performs over the next nine games may be pivotal for Mourinho’s hope of overhauling the squad this summer. There will not be a large war chest available to him under any circumstances. If he doesn’t show significant progress down the stretch it’s possible he’ll have zero money to work with in the summer transfer market.

The Special One needs to show he has a clear vision of what he wants Tottenham to look like in the near future. In fairness, injuries have likely prevented him from showing his hand to Spurs fans this year. Getting a healthy squad for the last nine games will force Mourinho to show the world just what he wants his Tottenham side to look like moving forward.
