4. Can Zamir White be the next great UGA running back?

Throughout the history of the program, Georgia football has seemingly produced one elite running back after another, especially in recent years. From Todd Gurley to the duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to most recently D’Andre Swift, the Bulldogs have always had an answer at running back. But with Swift and Brian Herrien gone, they are looking for the next guy to step up in that role.

Despite the talent they’ve had at running back, Georgia has often gone with a committee approach out of the backfield, though there is usually a clear preferred option. Last season, Swift had 196 carries for 1,218 yards and seven scores along with 24 receptions for 216 yards and another score. Herrien, meanwhile, had 103 carries for 490 yards and six touchdowns.

While Newman’s arrival at quarterback will add rushing ability from that spot and though James Cook will get work as well, it appears as if Zamir White will be the guy to step into Swift’s role as the lead running back. A season ago, he had 78 carries for 408 yards and three touchdowns. He showed he can perform well but will that continue in an increased role?

White has more than enough pedigree to make you believe he can be “the guy” in the Bulldogs rushing attack. He was the No. 1 running back in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 9 overall prospect. Although we don’t know entirely what Monken’s offense will look like, Georgia needs White to live up to his billing as a recruit.
