3. Kansas basketball questions: Will Marcus Garrett take another leap forward?

There are a few critical returning players for Kansas basketball this season, with guard Marcus Garrett high on that list. Entering his senior year, the 6-foot-5 Garrett will need to continue progressing for Kansas basketball to reach their goals of winning a national championship.

Over his first three seasons, Garrett has slowly received more responsibilities from the Jayhawks’ coaching staff. Garrett’s minutes have steadily progressed, peaking at 32.1 minutes per game as a junior, and his production has increased with more playing time.

In 31 games last season, Garrett made notable gains in assists and 3-point shooting percentage, showing his game is evolving. The outside shooting is particularly encouraging since Garrett improved to 32.7 percent from beyond the arc this season, a jump of 8.2 percent year-to-year.

As Garrett becomes more assertive on offense it will be key to see if he can become a top scoring option for a Jayhawks team in transition. Losing Dotson and Azubuike has certainly opened up shots for others to take.

They will also look to see Garrett become one of this team’s leaders in 2020. If Garrett can help set an example for his younger teammates and improve on the court it will be a big win for the Jayhawks.
