Alabama football adds explosive receiver Christian Leary to its 2021 class.

The Alabama football program has the need for speed with its latest commitment.

Alabama gained the commitment of four-star wide receiver Christian Leary out of Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday night. He let his intentions to play for Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide be known in a Twitter post on June 16.

“First and foremost, I wanna thank the man above for the position he has put me in,” wrote Leary. “I wanna thank my Mom, Dad, Uncle and the rest of the family that supported me through it ALL. Give a huge thank you to Coach Duke and the Edgewater Coaching Staff for making me a better player on and off the field.”

“Shoutout to Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Grey for making sure I’m eligible to play at the next level. I wanna thank EVERY COACH that believed in me through this process. LOVE YOU DEX AND CURT! THIS IS MY NEW HOME! Proud and Blessed to say…I WILL BE COMMITTING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA.”

With Christian Leary, Alabama lands a speedy wide receiver out of Florida.

247Sports Composite has Leary as a four-star recruit in the 2021 high school class. He is the No. 20 player in Florida, the No. 23 wide receiver in his class and the No. 130 player nationally. At 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Alabama just added a bona fide speedster to stretch the field outside the numbers, prying him out of Florida as well.

Leary had 43 official offers and 247Sports thought the Oklahoma Sooners were in the lead to get him. What is interesting about this is he chooses to go out-of-state as opposed to playing for one of the three Power 5 programs in the Sunshine State: Florida, Florida State and Miami. What does this say about these three schools’ recruiting deficiencies?

In truth, if you get an offer to play for a program like Alabama, you have to seriously consider it. By going to a school like Alabama, not only will you get a great education, but you’re likely to make the College Football Playoff and win a national championship before you’re done with college football. Only Florida State has made the playoff before out of the three Florida schools.

The big key here is if Florida wants to get on Alabama or Georgia’s level as a program, head coach Dan Mullen can’t let top-flight talent like Leary leave the state. If Mike Norvell or Manny Diaz want to turn around their respective ACC programs, they’ll need a player like Leary to help give their offense an identity and some juice to help build up their football cultures.

Leary is yet another star high school wide receiver who is taking his talents to Tuscaloosa.
