Tommy Brockermeyer has to be Alabama football’s top 2021 recruiting target.

Doesn’t Tommy Brockermeyer already sound like he plays on the Crimson Tide offensive line?

Brockermeyer is one of 31 five-star recruits in the 247Sports Composite in the 2021 high school class. At over 6-foot-6 and 283 pounds, the Fort Worth, Texas native is the No. 5 player in the country, the No. 1 player from Texas and the No. 1 player at his position group.

The All Saints Episcopal standout has early leanings towards the Alabama Crimson Tide over the in-state Texas Longhorns where his father, Blake Brockermeyer previously starred before his NFL career. Brockermeyer’s two recruiters from Alabama are defensive backs coach Karl Scott and offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Scott is Brockermeyer’s primary recruiter with Flood serving as his secondary recruiter.

Scott’s greatest recruit to date was Alabama defensive back Patrick Surtain II. Flood has landed fellow five-star offensive tackle JC Latham out of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Latham is the No. 4 player from Florida, the No. 5 offensive tackle prospect and the No. 17 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. Not a bad get for the former Rutgers Scarlet Knights head coach.

Prioritizing winning in the trenches will be key for the Crimson Tide to sustain excellence, no matter who is their football coach in the future. Nick Saban isn’t young, but his program is in position to succeed after he retires. So despite having Latham’s commitment already this early in the cycle, why is it so important to secure Brockermeyer’s in the coming months?

Alabama football needs to sign 2021 offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer.

While landing the best player in the state of Alabama in cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry is a must as well, who is drawing a lot of early interest from the rival Auburn Tigers and the College Football Playoff nemesis Clemson Tigers, the Crimson Tide may not be able to sign the best player away from Texas for very much longer, especially at a key position like offensive tackle.

Though watching the hometown kid not even really consider the TCU Horned Frogs has to stink for Gary Patterson, Saban and his staff have to take advantage of Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies not being quite there as programs under Tom Herman and Jimbo Fisher. Both Texas state schools are recruiting well, but aren’t on the same playing field as the Crimson Tide just yet.

With Texas having probably the next best shot of getting Brockermeyer, there are other great recruiters in the SEC who specialize in coaching the offensive line. Of course, we’re talking about Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman and Georgia Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke. Let’s not forget Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal who also played in the trenches.

Though Scott and Flood have done great work thus far in getting Latham’s commitment and having Alabama as Brockermeyer’s early leader, nothing is official until he signs. If Alabama wants to keep winning national titles under Saban, they have to get the best offensive linemen in the country to commit to their school. We know Saban can coach up anyone in the secondary.

Landing Brockermeyer may help Alabama land the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2021 cycle.
