Cleveland Browns offense sounds like it’s going to be very different in 2020

New offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt has big plans for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in 2020

After the, as usual, deflating performance of the Cleveland Browns in 2019, fans are on their hands and knees hoping the team can deliver come 2020. Well, some big changes have been made, with Kevin Stefanski taking over as head coach and Alex Van Pelt hired as his offensive coordinator.

In Van Pelt’s first year in charge running the offense in Cleveland, he’s already got some big things in mind. Perhaps most head-turning, he’s planning on featuring both Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb at the same time.

“I think you’d be crazy not to have your most talented guys on the field,” Van Pelt said during an appearance on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan radio show. “Whatever package that is. We would be crazy not to put those guys on the field at the same time. Both (are) dynamic as runners, pass-catchers, protectors.”

Can Alex Van Pelt successfully feature both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in 2020?

This has to be music to the ears of Browns supporters who have stood with this team through the highs, and lowest of lows. Last year’s team not only had postseason hopes, but some even thought of them as a dark-horse contender for the Super Bowl after acquiring Odell Beckham Jr.

Instead, the team finished with a lowly 6-10 record and Freddie Kitchens was fired as head coach. Now, though, Stefanski has provided some fresh air to the organization and Van Pelt is looking to add some excitement to the offense, in this case getting Chubb and Hunt to create magic together.

Chubb had a tremendous second year in the NFL, rushing for 1,494 yards and eight touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl nod. Hunt saw limited action in his eight games, rushing for 179 yards on 43 carries. Remember, though, Hunt is two years removed from posting 1,327 rush yards with the Chiefs in 2017 and is only 24 years old. He and Chubb, along with Baker Mayfield, Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, could really make Cleveland’s offense lethal.

We’ll see if Van Pelt will be able to draw up the right plays come 2020 to get the best out of both players. If he does, we could really see Cleveland take things to the next level this season and make some noise in the AFC North.
