5-star running back Camar Wheaton is a top priority for the LSU coaching staff

Throughout the past two months, we’ve seen a flurry of commitments announced in the college football ranks. All across the board, some of the most highly-touted prospects have decided to shut things down and pick a school.

The same, however, can’t be said for 5-star running back Camar Wheaton out of Lakeview Centennial High in Garland, Texas.

The 5-11, 190-pounder is ranked the No. 2 back on the 247Sports Composite, and has picked up 27 offers this cycle. This includes a tender from LSU, and the Tigers are charging hard.

Will Camar Wheaton pick LSU over SMU, Texas and Oklahoma?

Wheaton took a visit to Baton Rouge in early February and raved about his time spent on campus. Ed Orgeron and the rest of the staff painted a great picture as to what life would be like for the Texas product if he were to pack his bags and play his college ball in Louisiana.

That’s why the Tigers are on Wheaton’s short list. Despite picking up nearly 30 scholarships, Wheaton has reportedly been favoring LSU, Texas, Oklahoma and in-state SMU.

While Tigers’ fans out there are dreaming of a verbal pledge coming from the Texas standout, there’s stiff competition. Wheaton has also taken unofficials to Oklahoma, Texas and SMU. Those three coaching staffs are working overtime to try and land the speedster’s commitment as well.

However, LSU is in a good spot and could very well end up winning this recruitment battle. If they do, they’d be signing a 2021 running back who is also a track & field star as well. Will LSU end up signing him this December or February? We can’t wait to find out.
