NHL father-son duos: The Hull’s
Bobby and Brett Hull will likely remain the NHL’s greatest father-son scoring duo throughout time — unless Alex Ovechkin and his son have anything to say about it.
Separated by two decades, the Hull duo pulled together some serious hardware, a pair of Lady Byng Trophies, three Hart Trophies, three Stanley Cups and a couple of Hockey Hall of Fame inductions. Not too shabby.
All things considered, the Hull’s were practically the same players — pure scorers with some of the most blistering shots the league has ever seen.
Bobby Hull led the NHL in scoring seven times and became the first player to ever record multiple 50-goal seasons. Hull recorded 30(!) hat tricks with the Chicago Blackhawks and helped them capture the Cup in 1960-61. During his 16-year NHL career, Hull notched 610 goals and 1,170 points in 1,063 games.
He also spent seven years with the WHA in which he casually added another 300 goals in just over 400 games.
Like his father, Brett was also a scoring machine. Defense be damned, Brett absolute lethal with the puck. He lead the league in scoring three straight seasons from 1989-1991 with 72, 86 and 70 goals.
He joined the 500-goal club in just his 11th year in the league and ended his career with 741 goals and 1,391 points in 1,269 games. Brett also helped bring hockey into prominence in the South, leading the Dallas Stars to their first Cup in 1998-99.
Hull remained a 25-35 goal scorer late into his career, even leading the 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings in scoring during the playoffs en route to his second Cup.
The Hull’s? More like The Goal’s (sorry).
