Tiz the Law wins as Belmont Stakes returns to open Triple Crown.

Horse racing is back!

The first event in the 2020 Triple Crown took place on Saturday in Elmont, New York at the 152nd Belmont Stakes and many horse-racing fans will notice a few big differences this season. First is the fact that the Belmont Stakes actually kicks off this season, rather than closes it out. It’s the first time in the history of the race where the Belmont States opens the Triple Crown.

The new order of races is as follows:

  • Kentucky Derby from May 2 to Sept. 5
  • Preakness Stakes from May 16 to Oct. 3
  • Belmont Stakes from June 6

That isn’t the only difference, according to the New York Times, “Belmont’s traditional marathon distance of a mile and a half, which earned the race the nickname the Test of the Champion, was shortened to a mile and an eighth. That means the starting gate will placed in the chute on the backstretch, and the field of 10 will have to go around only one turn.”

Here’s how the races panned out.
