1. Kirk Cousins is an above-average quarterback

Cousins might be overpaid, but he also is underrated as a quarterback. He won’t suddenly transform into Joe Montana to elevate the Vikings offense to new heights in 2020, but he will continue to give Minnesota above-average play at the game’s most important position.

Quite a few teams would happily exchange quarterbacks with the Vikings. When Cousins is surrounded by quality talent and protected adequately he’s shown a proven ability to be really effective. Guys who throw for over 3,600 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 26:6 have a ton of value in the modern NFL.

Those sorts of numbers show Cousins to be a slightly above-average quarterback. That’s good enough to pilot a team with the Vikings’ level of surrounding talent to double-digit wins. That’s good enough to earn an NFC North crown in 2020.

Next. NFL Draft grades: Did the Vikings do enough for Kirk Cousins?. dark

The chances of Cousins changing the narrative surrounding his play this season are minuscule. The Vikings shouldn’t be concerned with the public perception surrounding their quarterback. They should be pleased with Cousins as long as he keeps leading their offense to the end zone. He should do that enough to earn Minnesota another division title in 2020.
