Circle Oct. 10 on the Texas football schedule for the Red River Rivalry vs. OU.

Oct. 3 – at Kansas State Wildcats

While this is a game that Texas should be able to win, it’s not one the Longhorns can ignore or look past. While the Wildcats host Texas the week before the Longhorns face the Oklahoma Sooners, Kansas State showed considerable improvement under first-year head coach Chris Klieman, who has proven himself as a phenomenal head coach. Prediction: Texas wins 35-24.

Oct. 10 – vs. Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas

The Red River Rivalry realistically should determine who comes out on top of the Big 12 this season. The Sooners have consistently been successful under Lincoln Riley, who is entering into his fourth season leading OU. In the three years, Riley and Herman have been leading their respective schools, the two have faced each other four times, three regular-season games and once in the Big 12 championship. Riley and the Sooners have won three of those contests, with UT’s lone win coming by a total of three points. This game will likely be a close one, just as UT’s game against LSU was, but it seems reasonable to pick the Sooners to come out on top given Riley’s success in this rivalry. Prediction: Oklahoma wins 38-34.

Oct. 17 – vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Following what will likely be a close loss to Oklahoma, the Longhorns return home and will face the West Virginia Mountaineers. UT should be able to bounce back against West Virginia and get a solid conference win in the process. Prediction: Texas wins 42-24.

Oct. 24 – at Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders are still working on becoming a solid program and they have a long way to go. Given the sheer difference in talent between the two teams, expect Texas to come out on top of Texas Tech here as the Longhorns get a commanding win in Lubbock. Prediction: Texas wins 41-20.

Oct. 31 – vs. Baylor Bears

The Baylor Bears were one of the best teams in the Big 12 last season under Matt Rhule’s guidance. Rhule has gone off to the NFL after rebuilding the Bears into a respectable program and it seems likely that first-year head coach Dave Aranda will see his team take a slight step back. Prediction: Texas wins 38-21.
