NFL quarterback rankings: Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson at No. 1?
NFL quarterback power rankings
15. Los Angeles Rams (Jared Goff)
Doesn’t it feel like the Rams’ Super Bowl appearance was much longer ago than it actually was? It was just a couple of years ago the team represented the NFC in the Super Bowl after a great season.
Jared Goff threw for 32 touchdowns that year playing in Sean McVay‘s dynamic, complex offense. In 2019, the Rams and Goff looked completely different.
Goff still threw for 4,638 yards, but he had 10 less touchdown throws and threw a career-high 16 picks. Yes, he regressed, as did the whole team. McVay, Goff and the Rams have a big swing year ahead of them. And, Goff will want to demonstrate he is still capable of big things.
14. Tennessee Titans (Ryan Tannehill)
The Tennessee Titans caught everyone’s attention last year. The team played a throwback brand of smashmouth football, and they almost played their way into the Super Bowl.
One of the reasons for the team’s resurgence was the play of Ryan Tannehill. He proved to be the perfect quarterback for the team’s offense. However, he was never really asked to do too much other than keep the ball out of harm’s way.
Tannehill was good, but he does not do enough to jump any higher on this list. He also got paid a ton of money this offseason, which may haunt the Titans down the line.
13. Minnesota Vikings (Kirk Cousins)
Kirk Cousins and Tannehill are almost in identical positions. Both are paid top-dollar to seemingly game-manage and rely on a rushing attack.
Cousins seems to always find himself on the fringes of the playoffs. His game is mainly mid-yardage throws, establishing the run and trying to break it open on play action.
Not that Cousins isn’t worth the money, but he does not turn the tide enough. However, there are a ton of NFL teams who would welcome a stable quarterback like him. He is a better passer than Tannehill, and he did throw the deep ball well in 2019.
