5 NFL players who will fall off a cliff in 2020 season
By John Buhler
Who is to say it hasn’t already happened? Okay, maybe it hasn’t, but we don’t view defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh anywhere to the degree we did when he first came into the league with the Detroit Lions back in 2010. The former No. 2 overall pick had five sensational years in Detroit before signing a record-breaking deal with the Miami Dolphins. Guess what? It broke the Dolphins.
Now Suh is on his second year with his fourth NFL in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While he did score a career-high two defensive touchdowns for the Buccaneers last season, he also had his lowest sack total of his career. Suh’s 2.5 sacks were well below his 5.85 per-season average. Though he plays defensive tackle, it shows he may not be the player he once was for Detroit.
I mean, we’ve all kind of known that. However, it is Suh’s football IQ and freelance ability that made him a savant at defensive tackle in the first place. He was never the type of guy to do what a scheme indicated. Suh just kind of did whatever he felt like and usually got away with it. Now entering his age-33 season, how many more years does he have in the league?
Tampa Bay should be a playoff team this year. Anything short of an NFC Wild Card berth would be a complete and total letdown for a Buccaneers team that hasn’t been to the postseason since 2007. If Suh were four years younger, we’d be looking at a potential All-Pro candidate. At this time, we’re just hoping he plays all 16 games, approaches five sacks and helps the Buccaneers win.
