The College Football Playoff may have two SEC teams getting in again.

Are two SEC teams better than one?

It’s only the end of June 2020, but we need to prepare ourselves once again for having two SEC teams make the College Football Playoff. It happened back in the 2017 college football season when the SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs met the one-loss at-large Alabama Crimson Tide in the national championship. Alabama defeated Georgia in heartbreaking fashion in double overtime.

While it was a fantastic game with two of the biggest brands in the sport going at it, half of the country tuned the title bout out because there wasn’t a Midwest or a West Coast team in the field that year. Though the selection committee may want more than just teams from the southeastern geographical footprint, it still wants the four best teams in at its very core.

Here are the latest College Football Playoff odds via SuperBookUSA. Once again, prepare yourselves for two SEC teams getting in, but which two will it be according to the latest odds?

Which two SEC teams are projected to make the College Football Playoff?

The ACC’s Clemson Tigers and the Big Ten’s Ohio State Buckeyes have the best odds of getting it at 1/3. Coming in at 6/5 odds are the SEC’s Alabama Crimson Tide. Throughout much of the offseason, these three teams have felt like looks to get in. Joining them in the playoff party on these latest odds are the SEC’s Georgia Bulldogs at 2/1.

Georgia edges out the SEC East rival Florida Gators at 3/1 for that fourth and final spot. The Big 12’s Oklahoma Sooners would be the second team out at 7/2. Teams with 7/1 odds of getting in are the Texas A&M Aggies, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Oregon Ducks, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Texas Longhorns. The Auburn Tigers and the LSU Tigers have 10/1 odds.

What are the latest odds trying to tell us regarding Georgia, the SEC and the College Football Playoff field? For Georgia, it is implying the Dawgs beat Florida for the fourth year in a row, win the division and play for a conference championship. It also suggests Georgia beats Alabama once this year, whether it’s in Tuscaloosa or in Atlanta. The Dawgs could be the first two-loss team to get in.

Of course, there are plenty of scenarios of how a one or two-loss Georgia team gets in. It’s way too early to go that wormhole of hypotheticals. At its core, what these latest odds are really telling us is the committee doesn’t want to put Oklahoma in again unless it absolutely has to. A one-loss Sooners team will not be given the benefit of the doubt. Who needs another first-round blowout?

These latest odds also suggest Oregon isn’t as close to getting in as people think. At this juncture, the Ducks have been a popular fourth team with the likes of Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma. As with Oklahoma, if the Ducks go undefeated, they’re absolutely getting in. But with one loss, they won’t get the benefit of the doubt like a Big Ten or SEC team because of conference strength.

When looking at the 13 teams with 10/1 or better odds of getting in, six hail from the SEC. That’s almost half of the Power 5 conference’s members. No other Power 5 conference has more than two teams with 10/1 odds of getting in, although the Big Ten has a pair of teams at 12/1 in the Michigan Wolverines and the Wisconsin Badgers. The SEC is loaded this year.

Though it may not happen, the SEC has a good shot of getting two teams into the playoff this year.
