The Premier League’s restart continues with another clash of top-four clubs on Wednesday as Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. The match has big top-four implications for Chelsea, but otherwise the team most interested in the outcome will be Premier League champions-in-waiting Liverpool.
Usually reliable sources in Germany claim that Chelsea have sounded out Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann about taking over at Stamford Bridge. That’s come as a surprise to many, given that Frank Lampard appears to have fulfilled his remit to date. In the midst of a transfer embargo, his side currently sit comfortably within the Champions League places and were five points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United coming into the match-day.
Anything other than a win here for Man City will hand Liverpool their first championship in three decades. In reality, though, any hope of City retaining the title vanished some time ago and their sights have long been set on the Champions League, which is scheduled to resume during the first week in August.
Chelsea’s Jorginho is back in contention for a start following suspension, but City’s Sergio Aguero may be out for the season after undergoing knee surgery.
