5 reasons Raiders can win with Derek Carr in 2020
Stability up front along Offensive Line
There was talk during the offseason that the Raiders would part ways with offensive guard Gabe Jackson, who, like Carr, was a 2014 draft pick for the organization. Jackson was slated to make over $9 million, and cutting him would have $0 cap hit, but instead, they brought him back, meaning all five starters from last year return.
Last season, Rodney Hudson, Trent Brown, Kolton Miller, Richie Incognito, and Jackson helped cut Carr’s sacks nearly in half, while paving the way for rookie Josh Jacobs to rush for over 1,100 yards. Incognito, who spent a year out of football, played at a Pro Bowl level after serving an early four-game suspension, and the team rewarded him with a two-year extension.
Carr has been skittish at times when under pressure since he broke his leg, and the hope is that with his line back, he will stand in the pocket and start to deliver more balls downfield. He is incredibly accurate with the deep ball, and his new cast of wide receiver have more than enough speed to burn.
