6. Philadelphia 76ers: Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons

This unique pair will have its strengths enhanced and its weaknesses mitigated in 2-on-2. Embiid’s strengths as an isolation scorer and punisher will play up in 2-on-2, especially when many other teams won’t be using a big. As long as he can take some possessions guarding a floor-spacer, he is more than equipped to absolutely pulverize opponents.

Simmons will have more space to get to the rim, making him more of a scoring threat than usual. He’s also versatile enough to guard literally everyone in this competition, something few others can say. These two have their warts, but they’re damn good in the right circumstances.

5. Brooklyn Nets: Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving

One of the more obvious pairings, Durant and Irving’s games are tailor-made for iso ball. Irving is crafty enough to get by almost any defender, and if he can lock into guarding one or two players, his defense probably plays up.

Even after an Achilles tear, Durant is still expected to be great in all forms of basketball. Few players in the league have as diverse a skill set and physical profile as Durant, who will be able to get off virtually whatever shot he wants while playing above-average defense.
