Nebraska football: 5 most underrated players in Nebraska Cornhuskers history
By John Buhler
Quincy Enunwa put himself in the Nebraska football record books.
Neck injuries seem to have marred what looked to be a promising, albeit underrated NFL career for former Nebraska wide receiver Quincy Enunwa. Frankly, he may never play another snap for the team who drafted him in the sixth round out of Nebraska in 2014. However, we cannot overlook one of the best wide receivers in the history of the Cornhuskers football program.
Enunwa played in Lincoln from 2010-2013. He got better every season he played for Nebraska. After being used sparingly as a freshman in 2010, Enunwa had 21 catches for 293 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore. Though he only had one trip to pay dirt as a junior in 2012, he doubled his catches to 42 and nearly had 500 receiving yards with 470.
Then in Enunwa’s senior season in 2013, some incredible things happened for him. He was named team offensive MVP with 51 catches for 753 yards and 12 touchdown receptions. Enunwa broke Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers’ record for most touchdown grabs in a season. In what was his final college game, Enunwa set another school record with a 99-yard touchdown grab.
Enunwa left Lincoln with 115 catches for 1,526 yards and 15 touchdowns. Through the 2019 NFL season, Enunwa has 119 catches for 1,617 yards and five interceptions with Gang Green. Though major individual accolades largely evaded him in Lincoln, he will forever have the longest touchdown reception in school history. Besting Rodgers with 12 touchdowns in 2013 was crazy.
