Overrated college football team from the SEC: Alabama Crimson Tide

This isn’t a joke, for the first time since we looked at betting deeper, the Alabama Crimson Tide is a bad bet to win their conference. Alabama is a +175 favorite to come out of the SEC as champs. This isn’t the normal Alabama team, with Max Jones at the forefront and a really interesting division behind them.

Things start extremely difficult for Alabama. They play the USC Trojans, who are riding high with Kedon Slovis under center. Their offense is going to be hard to stop so early in the season (they play Week 2). Then, just two weeks later, Alabama welcomes Georgia into Tuscaloosa. That’s going to be one of the biggest matchups in all of September, and it could put a loss in the Crimson Tide’s conference record earlier than we’ve seen it in a long time.

Alabama has a month and a half in the middle of the season where they play home just once. That’s a stretch that is going to push any team to its limit, even a Nick Saban coached team.

LSU obviously won the conference last season, but they lost just about everyone and Ed Orgeron has to replace most of his returning starters. Still, they are going to be a tough matchup in Death Valley.

Then, the Crimson Tide end the season with Texas A&M and Auburn, two barnburner matchups. This, all while Mac Jones tries to find his way under center. We see Saban taking a lot of the pressure off of him, but for the first time in a while, Alabama doesn’t have a QB who can make a play when they need it. They are still a great team, but putting such low odds on any SEC team this year is a bad bet.
