10 NFL rookies who could become instant stars in 2020
Patrick Queen – Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens enjoyed an excellent 2020 draft, the trend for which was set in the first round as they landed stud LSU linebacker Queen with the 28th overall pick.
It was the first of many steals for the Ravens, who addressed an obvious weakness on their defense with the addition of a linebacker who is the archetype for where the NFL is going at the position.
Undersized but highly proficient in pass coverage, Queen has demonstrated the ability to cover not only running backs and tight ends but also occasionally wide receivers
He has showcased excellent instincts when defending both the run and the pass and possesses excellent closing speed, which has previously come to the fore when Queen has been deployed as a pass rusher.
Queen had 12 tackles for loss and three sacks in his final season with Tigers. With the likes of Matthew Judon, Calais Campbell, and Derek Wolfe creating disruption up front, Queen is sure to be able to find creases to slip through and regularly pressure NFL quarterbacks.
The strength of the Ravens’ defensive line will also be key in creating more turnover opportunities for Queen. He has the coverage skills to improve significantly on the three passes defensed and one interception he tallied in 2019. If he does so while continuing to excel as a pass rusher, Queen could rival prohibitive favorite Young for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
