Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions need a new signal-caller. Matthew Stafford is entering his 12th season in Detroit. Thus far, the Lions have only made the postseason three times and remain winless in the playoffs since 1991. In fact, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won the NFC North, when it was called the NFC Central, more recently than the Lions, and the Buccaneers exited the division after the 2001 season.

If the Lions want any hope in competing in the near future, they must tank in 2020 for Fields. Fields would give this team a dual-threat quarterback who is accurate on deep throws. Most of all, he could provide the Lions new energy heading into a new era.

With Fields under center, the Lions’ offense could get creative with its schemes and concepts. The Buckeye could be the guy who helps Detroit find playoff success if he could translate his good decision-making in the NCAA on the professional level when it’s his time to adjust to the NFL game. That may help give him and the Lions an edge to find relevancy in the postseason.

A reunion between Fields and running back D’Andre Swift, two former Georgia Bulldogs, could shake things up in the NFC North in 2021 and beyond.
