Ranking the 10 biggest college football stadiums by seating capacity

1. Michigan Stadium – Home of the Michigan Wolverines – 109, 901
Michigan Stadium has never been small. Its initial construction in 1927 while Fielding Yost was head coach had an initial seating capacity of 72,000; large for its time. It was built, however, with footers to expand the stadium to over 100,000.
Its current capacity of nearly 110,000 makes “The Big House” both the largest football stadium and largest outdoor stadium in the United States. It is also the largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the Americas along with being the third-largest stadium and 34th largest sporting venue in the world.
The university holds its main graduations at the stadium. It has also hosted the NHL’s Winter Classic in 2014 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detriot Red Wings that drew over 100,000 fans; a record for a hockey game.
The house has hosted several record-setting soccer matches as well. Real Madrid lost to Manchester United in front of a record crowd of over 109,000.
Two of the three record crowns at Michigan Stadium came against arch-rival Notre Dame. IN 2013 Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner–wearing No. 98–had 376 yards of total offense as the Wolverines won a shootout 41-30.
In 2011, the Wolverines played in two wild games that drew well over 100,000 fans. In a four-point win over the Irish, Denard “Shoelace” Robinson had over 400 yards of total offense and 5 total touchdowns as the Wolverines eked out a 35-31 win.
In the big game against Ohio State, Robinson dazzled against with 337 yards of total offense and 5 total touchdowns as the Wolverines defeated their nemesis the Buckeyes by six points 40-34.
