Heavyweight rankings: A deeper look at the top five
4. Andy Ruiz Jr.
Whyte may have more quality wins than Ruiz, but Ruiz’s win against Joshua is more impressive than all of those solid wins of Whyte.
Say what you want, but Ruiz was a unified heavyweight champion, while Whyte has not even claimed one title.
Ruiz only has two losses, one against Joshua in their rematch, and the other was a very close loss against Joseph Parker, who is also ranked in the top 10.
Some feel Ruiz was a one-hit wonder, who just got lucky against Joshua as a last-minute replacement. He may go on to lose again, for now, he is just one fight removed from being the unified heavyweight champion, so he remains in the top four of the division.
He has teamed up with Eddie Reynoso, and this trainer change may end up being great for Ruiz. Reynoso has done some great work with Canelo Alvarez, and is slowly building up a very nice stable of fighters.
As for whats next, a showdown with fellow PBC fighter Deontay Wilder figures to be in his future, as it a very good fight and easy to make.
