Nebraska football: 5 questions the Nebraska Huskers must answer in 2020
3. Will the Nebraska rushing attack really take off?
Despite the inconsistency at quarterback due to Martinez’s injury, the Cornhuskers found some solid juice in their rushing attack. Again, the signal-caller was and is going to continue to be a big part of that. However, the offensive line and the emergence of Dedrick Mills were even bigger factors in that regard.
With the offensive line, Nebraska is in a good spot as they come into the 2020 season. This is one of the more experienced and deeper groups on the entire roster and, with the way they performed well last season, that should mean positive results from them. They will be an undoubted strength that the offense can hang their hats on.
Mills, meanwhile, had his issues early in the 2019 season. While he racked up 116 yards against Northern Illinois, Mills rushed for 50 yards in just two of his first nine games in Lincoln. However, he found something at the end of the year, rushing for 188, 65 and 94 yards, respectively, in the final three games of the season.
If the running back is capable of continuing that pace heading into his senior season with the Huskers, that could be huge for the offense as a whole. Yes, that unit will go as Martinez goes on the whole, but having a running game outside of the quarterback taking off to bank on could be a huge addition that the team can rely on and take pressure off of everyone else.
